Mud, Sweat & Gears
St Ives CC claimed three podiums at the first round of the Mud Sweat and Gears Eastern Region MTB series at Hadleigh Park, the venue for the 2012 Olympics. 14 members of St Ives CC battled with the bitterly cold wind to negotiate this hilly and technical course.
Sam Trotter was 3rd in the youth male race, Sapphire Curtis was 3rd in the juvenile girls race and Nathan Gibson was 3rd in the junior male race.
Dominic Pauley was 5th in the U12 boy’s race, Ralf Falkner was 8th in the juvenile male race, Ruby O’Dell was 6th in the U9 girls race, Orla Kenna was 6th in the U12 girls race and Max Falkner was 15th in the youth male race.
Jack Taylor was 6th in the sport male category. Leo Falkner was 13th, Ian Megginson was 21st, Elliot Kenna was 63rd and Ryan O’Dell was 67th in the open male category. Mick Curtis was 40th in the grand veteran male race.
Muddy Monsters
The St Ives CC Go Ride team enjoyed podium success at round 5 of the Muddy Monsters North Cambs cyclocross league at the Embankment Sports and Athletics Arena in Peterborough. The event was hosted by Fenland Clarion.
The 9 members of St Ives CC braved the cold and mud to scoop a St Ives CC 1st, 2nd and 3rd in the U12 boys race with Aaron O’Connor taking the win, Ollie Pether coming 2nd and Jacob Wood coming 3rd.
The team had more podium success in the other categories with Ralph Bicknell coming 2nd and Ollie Bryan-Harris coming 3rd in the U10 boys race. Katie Cox was also 3rd in the U10 girls race.
Also racing in Peterborough were Emmie Cox and Charlie Trimble.
