This weekend St Ives CC rider Jason Kierman, age 43, aced in the Welsh Track Championships in the Over 40’s Endurance program held in Newport. This event is run alongside the Welsh National Track Championships and whilst Jason was able to compete as a non-Welsh participant he wasn’t eligible to win the Welsh titles.
Jason was on amazing form, securing a clean sweep of 3 wins over the weekend of racing, His first race was the 3km Pursuit and Jason completed the 12 Laps in 3.37.7 winning by nearly 6 seconds.
In the second race Jason aced again in the 40 lap 10km Scratch race with a run off of over 29mph. After a dramatic last 3 laps he managed to get around the lead pack on the final corner to take his second win of the weekend.
The final points race was a 30 laps race completed at an average speed of 30mph. Having won the first points sprint after 10-laps, Jason then got in a break with another rider to take the second sprint at 20-laps and with another rider bridging across to the break he then managed to take a lap on the main bunch catching them on the final lap to secure another win.
Jason will now be competing in the same 3 events at the British Cycling National Track Championships in Manchester in 2 weeks which will pitch him against the best riders the country has to offer. Jason is hoping to repeat his success when he won the British Masters National Track Championships in the 40-44 age group for both the Scratch and Points races in 2014-15.
