Thanks to all 57 of you that turned up last weekend to the St Ives CC Go Ride Games. We hope that you had a great day’s racing, and particular congratulations to all those who were participating for the first time. I learned a lot about how many people it takes to complete the scoring that day, the answer being more than we had to take account of unexpected demand! Anyway, thanks for bearing with me and I hope that everyone went away satisfied. Given the time constraints, we placed riders on the day on the results of the TT and scratch race 1. The overall results will be placed on the British Cycling website. if you have any discrepancies, let me know and I am sure we can sort something out.
For those of you that were unable to make it, we had a great day with kind weather and a technical course in the top of Bobs Wood at Hinchingbrooke Park. We ran a time trial as well as both a clockwise and anticlockwise mass start race for each age group – 15 races in all! Thanks again go to all the club members and parents who helped out to make it happen, and to Hinchingbrooke Park who let us stage it there.
The Go-Ride sessions will soon be starting again on 15 September, running on the first and third Saturday of each month. Here we look at bike handling skills such as mounting / dismounting, braking, cornering, gear selection, ascending and descending, all in an off road environment.
James Bamford and myself are currently the coaches running these sessions so we are currently restricted to 28. We are hoping to get some more coaches trained up as we head into 2013 in order that we can offer a greater variety to a greater number, to accommodate the increasing demand ! If you want to come down, I would recommend just dropping us a note beforehand so we can get a handle on numbers. Remember as well we do have some of our own bikes so can help out if you cannot get your bike there every time.
If you want to join the club and join the happy band, please fill in the form on the website and send off to John Best with a cheque. For those of you Go Riders signing up for the first time, your membership fees will be refunded once you have attended 6 sessions so your St Ives CC Go Ride membership is effectively free to regular attendees. Benefits include discounts at Grafham Cycling plus usual club benefits such as being able to order snazzy club kit at cost and racing in it!
And there’s more!
At the moment, if you want to join British Cycling with all the benefits that includes, click here. Even better is that if you join St Ives Cycling Club and are under 16, you can get your British Cycling membership FREE for a year if you mention “St Ives Cycing Club” when you join! Click here for more details.
There are still fixtures around and about if you enjoyed the racing last week, don’t forget to check out Go Ride racing here and click on “more” on the right of the screen. Once we get into the sessions proper, I’ll try and keep abreast of what is going on locally. There will certainly be a race at Grafham Water around November time, which was held for the inaugural time last year and this year looks to be even bigger and better!
And something for mums…
Its not just P&G supporting mums, or whatever the TV advert says….. We have seen increasing interest from mums who have been seeing how much fun you can have on a bike. For you, you will pleased to know that Tracey Ibbett is doing some Sky Ride Breeze rides on the following dates so you would be very welcome on those. Contact Tracey (traceyibbett@talktalk.net) for more details or click here for more info.

And finally…
One great development we are seeing is the increased interest from older riders (U16-U18) who want to get into racing road bikes. At the moment we don’t have much set up, but would be delighted to welcome you onto a Sunday club run if you are interested and would like to get some miles in. Let me know if you are interested in this and we can set something up.
Ride safe!
