St Ives CC’s Go Ride section enjoyed success this weekend at the Olympic Mountain Bike track at Hadleigh Farm in Essex. The racing formed the last round in the eight race 2013 Mud Sweat and Gears series organised by Essex Legacy.
The club has managed to gain podium places in all female youth categories this year in virtually all of the races in which they have competed in this year. In the U12 and U14 female categories in particular, the racing has been closely fought throughout the season with the overall podium position resting on this last race. Molly Williams took the race and series win in Youth (U16) female, posting faster times than many older competitors, male or female whilst Holly Hoy and Sophie Saberton dug deep to secure an overall second place in the series in Juvenile female (U14) and U12 female respectively. Harriet Wylde was pipped at the post to second place on the day, but having won all her other races throughout the season, took first place overall in the U9 female. This brings the MTB series racing to a close, and many of the club’s mountain bikers will now move onto cyclocross over the winter.
