Club Time Trial – 30 May

For the first time year it wasn’t cold and there was virtually no wind either. I had suggested in the morning that conditions might be very good and they turned out to be almost perfect. About half the field set course personnel bests and those that didn’t were mostly not far off.
Tim Phillips was fastest again in 22.11, setting yet another PB this time by a few seconds. Charlie Bratt was second in 23.45 which I think may be a PB. Nick Hall was third and the fastest junior in 24.18. Both Charlie and Nick’s times were set riding standard road bikes without any aero equipment. Former member Jess Williams was fastest women with a very impressive 26.10, taking over a minute of her previous best.
Those regularly riding the club runs have seen Cameron improve considerably over the last year so its no surprise he set a PB. However his time was around three minutes quicker than he was riding last year! That’s outstanding and must be a contender for Most Improved at the end of the year. Very well done Cameron.
Cece was fastest junior female taking over half a minute off her previous best, although she was supposed to be taking it easy as competing in the Triathlon National Championships this coming weekend (we all wish her good luck in that). Club run captain Bob set a PB, riding with only one working cleat as the other broke whilst warming up! Chris riding his fixed wheel set his fastest time for two years. Glenn was almost one and a half minutes faster than last week and smashed the 30 minute / 20mph average barrier for the first time. Steve was over a minute faster than last week and set a PB.  Lilly and Julia both set PB’s. Phil and Mike both set big seasons bests, although for Mike I think it was the first time he’s had a trouble free ride, having used daughter Holly’s bike last week.  Even I set a PB by 16 seconds and that was after riding 70 miles earlier in the day 🙂 Well done to all.

Can I just remind riders that ideally they should have a working rear light (preferably a flashing one). Its not compulsory but does make you much more visible to traffic especially when overcast. I know I am guilty of not using one and should before anyone points that out!
