Not sure anyone actually enjoyed racing this Wednesday, with most agreeing the cold, strong NNE winds made for very slow and miserable riding conditions. Chris Penney summed it up: “it seemed to be either uphill or into a headwind all the way”. With a few exceptions most riders were around a minute or more slower than last week. On the plus side at least it didn’t rain and the long term forecast is for warmer weather next week.
Fastest on the night was non member Ryan Witchell in 22.44, a very impressive time given the conditions! Second place and fastest club member was Adrian Beer in 23.42. Third and riding a new time trial bike for the first time was Paul Schofield in 23.47. Given that it takes some time to get the position right on a TT bike, and that Paul had some mechanical issues, he might be giving Tim a run for his money in the months to come! Lilly O’Dell was fastest women in 29.47, and Nathan Gibson fastest under 18 in 26.35, with both riding exceptionally well to post similar times to previous weeks.
Well done to Phil Oxborough who revelled in the conditions, beating last weeks time by three quarters of a minute and also to Steve Bannell for taking part in his first evening TT. Bea once again just pipped brother Dom, and although both were slower than last week, chapeau to both of them for even riding as they are aged 12 and 14.
