The club fielded a strong team of 7 juniors and 3 senior members today at the first round of the Eastern region MTB league, Mud Sweat and Gears. The race was held at the Lee Valley Velopark in London. The riders battled with the blustery wind on the narrow winding course.
Beatrice Pauley, age 13, took 2nd place on the podium today in the Juvenille girls category.
Orla Kenna, age 9, was 4th girl in the U12 girls race and Ruby O’Dell, age 7, came 6th in the U9 girls race.
Nathan Gibson, age 15, came 4th in the Youth boys race. Ralf Falkner, age 11, came 6th in the U12 boys race and Dominic Pauley, age 11, was 14th in the same race. Max Falkner, age 13, came 18th in the Juvenile boys race.
Ian Megginson had a strong race in the Open Male category, coming 12th out of 60 riders. Leo Falkner came 20th in the same race after suffering a calf injury in the first lap. Mike Hoy came 30th in the Veteran Male race. Mike had to swap categories on the day after discovering a problem with his brakes, thankfully he fixed them in time for the Vet race.
St Ives CC also had more podium success at the 6th round of the Muddy Monsters Cyclocross league at Priory Park in Bedford on Saturday. Two sets of siblings raced taking 3 podium spots.
Ralph Falkner came 1st in the U12 boys race, his 5th win in a row, and brother Max was 3rd in U14 boys race. Cora Wood, age 7, came 3rd in the U8 girls and brother Jacob Wood, age 11, also had a great race in the U12 boys race.
Finally, Go Ride member Daniel Miller completed the Wattbike No Excuses Standard ride at the weekend.
