Last weekend Jason Kierman from St Ives CC secured a win in the 40-45 age group category at the LVRC Track Omnium event at Newport Velodrome in Wales.
The LVRC Omnium race is a 40-lap scratch race, an elimination race and a 3km pursuit on day one and then the 750m time trial, a flying lap and a 60-lap points race to finish on day two. To be successful you need to be consistent in all the events and the winner at the end of the event is the rider with the lowest number of points.
Jason used his powerful sprinting advantage to win the first 2 events on day one. A second place in the pursuit led to Kierman finishing day one in 1st position, 1 point ahead of Rob West, the current World Masters Pursuit Silver medallist. Day 2 lead to PB’s in both the 3-lap 750m time trial and the flying lap when Jason recorded the fastest time of the day and secured a 3 point advantage going into the final event. The last event was a brutal 60 lap points race. Jason battled hard to secure a second place finish and this and his earlier success led to him taking the overall win for the Omnium race for his category.
