The St Ives CC jersey could be spotted at the National Track Championships at the National Cycling centre in Manchester this weekend. Jason Kierman, from St Ives CC competed in three races over the three days of competition.
Jason put in a strong performance in the Blue Ribbon event, the 20km Scratch race, which was the last race of the National Championships. Jason finished in 11th place in his heat so qualified for the final on Sunday evening in front of a sell-out crowd. The 80-lap scratch race final started fast and kept going at a quick pace of 31.5 mph. As the race reached its conclusion the speed really notched up in the last lap to 40mph. Jason had a great race coming 15th in a very strong field of riders which included future Olympic track stars from the British Cycling National Talent Academy. Kierman, age 43, was the oldest competitor in the endurance events.
After an unlucky DQ in the 4km pursuit race on Friday, Jason was also unfortunate not to qualify for the final of the 15km points race on Saturday after his heat proved particularly strong. The same score in a different heat would have seen him race in the final that evening.
