St Ives CC hosted round 10 of the Eastern Region Cyclocross league today at Grafham Water. This was a new and challenging course for 2016 which included 2 beach sections which added an extra technical dimension. In addition to the ditch jump and the hurdles, the 1.6 mile course also included parts of the segway track along with many narrow twists and turns. The U12’s raced on a slightly different shorter course.
The club fielded their biggest Go Ride team yet, a strong team of 18. This included seasoned racers and juniors having a try at competing for the first time.
The club scooped an impressive seven podium places today and another five Go Ride members finished in the top 10 in their categories.
Ruby O’Dell, age 7, came first in the U8 girls race and Cora Wood also age 7 came 2nd in the same race. Orla Kenna, age 9, came 2nd in the U10 girls race, Liam Conway, age 9, came 3rd in the U10 boys race, and Beatrice Pauley, age 12, also came 3rd in the U14 girls race.
St Ives CC smashed the Junior Girls category with Cecilia Himes, age 15, taking the win with Holly Hoy, age 16, taking 2nd place.
The club had more top 10 finishers with Sapphire Curtis, age 12, coming 4th in the U14 girls race, Anastasia Magnago, age 16, came 5th in the Junior girls race, Angus Lawrence, age 13, came 7th in the U14 boys race, Nathan Gibson, age 15, came 10th in the U16 boys race and Katie Cox, age 8, who came 10th in the U10 girls race,
The other St Ives CC juniors that raced today are Dominic Pauley, age 10, who came 18th in the U12 boys race, Ben Hall, age 13, came 19th in the U16 boys race. Nick Hall, age 15, came 13th in the Junior Male race and Jacob Wood, age 10, came 25th in the U12 boys race.
A couple of members of the team unfortunately didn’t finish due to technical difficulties.
