The St Ives CC Go Ride team had another brilliant day of racing today at Mistley. This was round 9 of the Eastern Cyclocross League, hosted by Colchester Rovers. The strong team of 5 juniors all finished in the top 4 in their races.
The race took place mainly in the woods and there was a steep drop for the youths which was reminiscent of CX in Belgium with a large crowd offering encouragement and heckling in equal measure.
Angus Lawrence, age 13, came 1st in the U14 boys race, finishing half a minute clear of the next rider in a competitive field of 25 boys.
The St Ives CC team got a hat trick of 2nd place finishes today. Orla Kenna, age 9, raced in the U10 girls race, Nathan Gibson, age 15, raced in the U16 boys race and Sapphire Curtis, age 12, raced in the U14 girls race. This is Orla’s 3rd podium finish in a row.
Ruby O’Dell, age 7, also had a strong race today coming 4th in the U8 girls race.
Nathan managed to stay with the leader for a lap or so but then Jack was on fire. Angus worked hard and kept putting in consistent laps without any major offs or mechanicals
Sapphire battled back from fourth on the first lap to third by lap 3 and then sat on to the second placed rider until the last lap where she powered away.
