It’s been a busy weekend for the St Ives CC juniors. The club has just launched a new initiative to encourage more children to race. It’s clearly working as this week the club had 11 children racing in 3 different events across the region.
At the final race of the Mud Sweat and Gears MTB series at Langdon Hills in Essex, St Ives CC got 4 podiums. Holly Hoy, age 15, came 1st in the girls youth race, Sam Trotter, age 14, came 2nd in the boys juvenile race, Sapphire Curtis, age 12, came 2nd in the U12 race and Orla Kenna, age 9, came 2nd in the U9 race. Nathan Gibson, age 15, also came 6th in the youth boys and Lilly Gibson, age 11, came 5th in the U12 girls.
St Ives CC had 2 overall winners of the Mud Sweat and Gears MTB league for 2016. Holly Hoy won the youth girls category and Beatrice Pauley, age 12, won the U12 girls category. Sapphire Curtis also took 3rd place for the U12 girls.
The club had more podium success yesterday at the Eastern Region Cyclocross race in Basildon. Ruby O’Dell, age 7, came 3rd in the U8 girls race, Ralf Faulkner, age 10, came 9th in the U12 boys race and Max Faulkner, age 12, came 18th in the U14 boys race.
At the Central Region Cyclocross event at RAF Halton, Bea Pauley came 2nd in the U14 girls race whilst Dom Pauley came 8th in the U12 boys race.
