How inconsistent the weather has been this year – we have gone from cancelling last week’s event, with its heavy showers and dull, murky light. This week we were back on track; a much brighter evening, but with a strong North to North-Easterly wind.
Our Junior section has dropped off, due to revisions for their exams. However, young Nick Hall has been putting in consistent times and headed our Juvenile table on the night. The 15-year-old, has really blossomed as cyclist of late, going from a TT newbie, to A group ride within the last three months. Well done to Nathan, Zach, Angus and Ben (Nick’s younger brother), for all turning up and riding.
The field for Senior and Veteran riders was one of our smallest of the season so far; with only 13 riders, including our only female (reliable Wendy).
Firstly, we had another epic battle between the Digby Brother’s – Dave going off immediately in front of his brother!! On the night Dan won sibling rivalry.
Then we saw an incredible ride from our guest rider James Tucker. It was James’s first ever ride on the NX15/10 Sawtry and the Derbyshire rider, left us all in amazement as he powered round the course in an incredible new course record of 00:20:55, shaving amazing 30 seconds off Steve Lamper’s 00:21:25 the previous course record [The St Ives CC Members course record of 00:21:46 is held by Luke Hattersley].
Bad luck to Ken Rolland on the night for puncturing DNF.
