Having got the audax bug, I then decided to up my training and do a few “DIY” 200k rides. My family were planning lunch next to the River Orwell near Ipswich and so I hatched the idea of riding out and back as a further 200km audax ride. Again, under audax regulations, I had to predeclare my control points (more mandatory coffee) and nearly broke one of other rules of participation – thou shalt not ride too fast! Rides must be at a maximum of 30kph but fortunately that does include the time taken for stops, so a leisurely lunch made sure that box was ticked. There are some fantastic, smoothly paved and quiet roads through Suffollk and it’s definitely worth exploring beyond our local area.
