Evening TT results

Judging by rider times, conditions were slightly less favourable than in previous weeks. Malcolm Smith was back to winning ways finishing fastest on the night in 23.21. For the third week in a row, second place went to Jack Burgin in 24.25, with Mike Hoy third in 24.48.

A few riders did however manage season’s bests on the night. Those included Slavic who knocked nearly minute off his PB, breaking the 30 min and 20mph average for the first time on this course, and also Paul who chipped off another few seconds off despite being held up briefly just after the start by a turning lorry. Well done to fourteen year old Thomas on riding his first evening TT, and also Francis who rode on an old racer with Reynolds 531 tubing. Although once a common sight at races it’s quite rare to see them these days with so many opting for carbon fibre frames. However it got Mick and I reminiscing about older bikes, and there seemingly fashionable comeback against certain groups in society. I remember riding my first St Ives evening TT’s on a 531 frame as a teenager 20 plus years ago on the Old Hurst/ Warboys course. Always seemed a fast if somewhat dangerous course but that was probably due the almost constant stream of impatient overtaking cars and lorries.

Unfortunately several riders incurred problems on the course, however everyone made it safely back to the finish. After a near collision last week, additional signs were put up and a marshal placed on the roundabout closest the finish, which seemed to have the desired effect of slowing down the traffic. Although the minimum requirement to run the event is two marshals plus a starter / timekeeper, ideally we need four. There are still slots on the marshal list ( http://1drv.ms/1N9iedt ), so if you can spare some time to help please add your name in the blank spaces. Thanks to the following who helped make the event possible, and to the other riders who offered to assist on the night if needed. Your help is appreciated by all the riders.

Timekeeper – Mick Butler
Starter – Daniel Rigby
Marshals – Paul Evans (also acted as broom-wagon), James Warriner & Kevin Cummings (both of whom at short notice assisted rather than race) and Steve Purser (one of the parents who very kindly offers to marshal most weeks).

Also thanks to Chris & Terry for helping at slightly delayed registration. My apologies to those who had to wait a little longer due to a slight mishap on my part!
