We had a very positive turn out for our first short club ride with a total of 7 (Paul, David Pope, Alan Hines, Matt Allen, Mike Hoy, Holly Hoy and myself). I must say I was very surprised with such a good number and I am sure it will grow quickly.
The pace at the start was blistering but soon as everyone settled down and realised that not everyone (me) could stay with the pace it all settled down. The ride was a hard one with a constant head wind, that when we did get the odd tail wind it was received with much relief. It was a very educational ride especially for me with the guys teaching me loads – staying on someones wheel, through & offs, and loads more. We even managed a 5 minute break for a quick chat (the equivalent of the long ride cafe stop) after Yelling to recover from the hills. A positive of the ride was that everyone knew the area and therefore where they were going. Only one wrong turn as I had planned the ride through Papworth to add some extra miles but we are all used to riding the Bypass.
We were back at Richardson Cycles before 9:30 therefore allowing everyone to feel satisfied that they had had a good ride with fellow club members but still be able to meet family and/ or other commitments.
