A fantastic day was had last weekend at Cannock Chase. The sun shone as we met in the car park at 10am, with smiles of anticipation and last minute lubing up of the chains and tyre pressure checking, the 13 of us set off up into the woods looking forward to seeing what the Monkey trail had to offer. We weren’t left in the dark for very long, as we were met with a steep rocky descent and some board walk straight away. We all safely negotiated that, some more easily than others, a few with worried faces of what else might lay ahead of them. They day carried on, with us enjoying the sunshine and tackling some steep ascents followed with some fast and fun descents to keep us smiling. Mick Curtis had a bit of a shock when he suddenly realised that his brake pads had fallen out of his front brake, unfortunately he had left the spare set in his car, so he carefully headed back to give a local bike shop an earful (as they had fitted them!) before rejoining us later in the day.
Some of our less experienced riders, made great improvement during the day, with lots of encouragement and coaching. We finished the day being treated to some great fast flowing descents, which Russell and Molly had to go back and do again! We finally met back at the car park with grins from ear to ear, and with rumbling tums ready to eat a horse! Alas the Cafe was queuing out of the door, so we headed off in convoy to bundle into a McDonald’s on the way back to enjoy putting back on the calories we’d just burnt off! The quote of the day, has to go to the man the said to Tracey, as she was holding back to give the rider in front a bit of space so that she could enjoy a fast flowing descent, ‘if you let your brakes off a bit, you will find that you will go faster and roll over the obstacles better’! to which she said ‘ok’ and left him standing!!
Enjoy the photo’s, looking forward to seeing you on the next ride.
Cheers, James
