At last, the wait is over and the first session of 2014 is upon us at Hinchingbrooke this weekend. I will be at the last Eastern Region cyclocross on Saturday so there won’t be an Alconbury road session in the afternoon though. Sorry. These will start in February.
Cyclocross
Final race in the Eastern League this weekend – CC will miss it as she is competing in the schools cross country running but Holly and Sam H will be flying the flag for St Ives. More info available, including current league standings on www.easterncross.org.uk.
Sam Trotter was leading the U12 boys in the 7-event Muddy Monsters series after the first 3 events. The remaining events, all on Saturdays are on -25th Jan and 22nd Feb at Welwyn and 8th Feb at Ashwell. A flyer is below. The age range is U8 to U16 and is set up as a great introduction to cyclocross racing. Welwyn and Ashwell courses complement each other well since Ashwell is faster, with Welwyn more technical, particularly when muddy! I would thorougly recommend these as they are just good fun.
Next session
One session this weekend: Mountain bikes – Hinchingbrooke Park at usual time of 10am – 11.30 am
Sessions cost £3. Please bring a water based drink, bike and helmet. I would also recommend gloves, particularly on tarmac! As the days are getting cooler (and wetter), wear appropriate clothing!
Future dates
We will put all the dates for the 2014 sessions on the St Ives CC website so I will drop a note round when that’s done
And finally…
Check out Mark Fraser and Mark Wyer’s website designed for new riders on www.youthcyclesport.co.uk – there are a host of articles on there about subjects that I frequently get asked about, including road / cyclocross bike reviews and when to go to clipless pedals. You can also contribute yourself!
Ride safe!
