About 15 of us gathered outside Richardson’s, 3(?) said they were not ridding the whole route, so 12 of us headed off as one mixed ability group. Coming into the Hemmingfords, Dave clipped a wheel on the tight left hand bend and not helped by the wet road surface, came down. Fortunately no harm done to rider or bike.
Dave & I dropped back at Huntingdon, not wanting to ride at A group pace, and hooked up with Nick at Alconbury who had decided that as his legs lacked the climbing (there being few hills in Singapore!) he preferred a more sedate ride. With only 3 in our little group, it was tough when going into the wind, but we soldered on, making the Coffee Tavern at about 11:15. Happily we meet up with Rob, Frank & Phil at the stop & were able to work a little more as a group on the return. But first Rob & Jenny had to fix Jenny’s flat outside the Cafe, before Jenny rode off in the other direction (apparently this was planned – Jenny going the other way that is, not the puncture!!). If you look closely at the photo you can just make out the riders of our group cowering in the bus stop!
I don’t think I have seen people enjoying fixing a puncture quite so much before!! Good job Jenny took over, otherwise we might still be waiting, given Rob’s track record for speedy changes!! (sorry Rob!) Otherwise an incident free return, riders gradually peeling off before St. Ives, Nick & I getting back at 13:30.
I hope everyone else had a good ride – at least the sun came out at times, if only that blasted wind would drop! (fat chance).
NB – I collected a pair of clear BBB (brand) glasses at the stop. If you left them behind, please give me a shout.
Best Wishes.
