It was a weekend of success for St Ives CC with an outstanding performance from Scott Cousins leading the way. 50 miles was a time trial distance Cousins had been targeting for some time and continued his excellent season by taking first place in the Maldon CC time trial clocking a time of 1 hour 55.38, over four minutes faster than the second placed rider.
Meanwhile, Luke Hattersley was sanguine about his eighth place in the Junior National 10 mile time trial, which was staged on a course in Norfolk on Saturday. Finishing in a time of 21.54, he said afterwards, “It wasn’t my finest performance, but there’s no point in crying about it, it’s better to concentrate on my next goal.”
In road racing, Felix Barker kept up the defence of the club’s Eastern Road Race League defence, managing sixth place in the East London Velo race for 2nd, 3rd and 4th category riders. Run over 67 miles at Hatfield Heath in Essex on Sunday the race ended in a sprint finish, despite numerous attacks throughout the race.
