Go-Ride update

Last session

In the last session, we revisited the cornering that we had started the previous session, but in considerably less mud! We also had a number of new joiners

Rider of the week

Anastasia, Charlie and Ralf won the rider of the week this week for some very consistent cornering across all three courses.

Mountain biking

The second round of MSG was held at Codham Park on 21 April and the course was even better than last year. Again it was great to see lots of red St Ives shirts  on the podium again with Harriet (1st) for U9, Sophie (2nd) for U12, Holly (3rd) for U14, Molly (1st) for U16  and Sam Trotter (2nd) for U12 boys, the first Go Ride podium for the boys so well done Sam!

The whole team was Bea, Dom, Emma, Harriet, Lotty, Molly, Sam H, Sam T, Sophie and we are extremely proud of all of them

The next round is at Thetford in May; see http://www.mudsweatgears.co.uk for more details

Molly is currently looking forward to the MSG Aspire session this coming weekend so good luck for that!

Track racing

Welwyn superclub coming up, starting this weekend so good luck to all those riders who are moving from the velodrome to the longer outside track. This is the first block of sessions. If you are interested in being nominated, let me know and we will see what we can do on the next block of sessions starting in mid June.

Road and Time Trial

Mark Wyer and myself, together with Alison Lilley, have now now run two of five planned sessions at Alconbury Airfield on Tuesdays between 19:00 – 20:15. with an average of 27 riders at each session. We welcomed riders from a number of clubs and covered a number of areas including braking, cornering and group riding. We still have a few spaces left for the remaining sessions and numbers are restricted for these sessions but if you are interested, please contact Mark on markwyer@britishcycling.org.uk.

We are very lucky to have access to such a terrific facility that includes access to the runways, giving us massive amount of flexibility on setting up courses and a traffic free car park providing a ready made circuit with variable corners. Ideally you will have a road bike, but it is not mandatory. We have a few available for riders aged 12+.

The last session on 21 May will comprise Go Ride Racing so even if you don’t ride, come and support the riders and check out what we are up to.

Club Time Trials

If you are over 12, you can race time trials on the road. CC has one under her belt, riding a two-up with her dad, Alex has two and Holly now has four races completed, and both Holly and Alex are setting consistent times around 35 and 40 minutes respectively. Time trials are on Wednesday evenings, with signing on at 6pm for a 7pm start. It doesn’t matter really how fast or slow you are but is great for testing yourself and trying to set that elusive personal best!

Anyone who is a club member can turn up and have a go for the very reasonable £3. Let me know if you are interested and I will give you more information.

Next session

Session starts at 10am (finishing at 11.30am) at Hinchingbrooke Park, please be there a little bit early if possible. Please remember to bring a drink. We are continually stepping up the pace now, and it is important to stay hydrated. Don’t forget your helmet (although I do have a few club helmets if you do forget). Sessions are £3 per person.

And finally, other stuff coming up soon…
