A busy week for St Ives CC who not only hosted an Open 10 mile Time Trial, but also had riders competing in road races throughout the region.
There were two races in the Eastern Road Race League on Sunday and the Ken Wright Memorial Road Race, hosted by the VC Revolution club at Peldon in Essex, ended in a sprint finish, despite the best efforts of some of the participants. St Ives’s Lubomir Belak took eighth place in the race for 2nd, 3rd and 4th Category riders, earning valuable points in the club’s defence of the league title.
Mike Cowland managed to score more points by also taking eighth place in the Welwyn Wheeler’s Fleche Welwyn Road Race over 56 miles at Cople in Bedfordshire. Having had a lead of over a minute at one stage, winner Anthony Purnell of Cambridge CC, hung on to win by just six seconds.
On Saturday the club hosted a 10 mile Time Trial on the B1043 between Sawtry and Stilton. The club fielded nine of the 56 competitors, with Pete Balls continuing his fine form, taking2nd place with a time of 21 minutes 42 seconds, behind Adam Gascoigne of Pedal Power Loughborough (21.21).
