Well here it is, Merry Christmas, everybody’s having fun. Saturday 15th is the last Go Ride session for 2012.
Last week
Last week was the coldest we have had, with 21 hardy souls braving the chilly temperatures to get on their bikes.
As numbers were down a bit, we only had 2 groups, Boardman and Cavendish joining forces, with Simon and myself whilst James worked with the Athertons. Following some star jumps to get the blood flowing and Knees-up-Mother-Browns (technical term), ably demonstrated by Anastasia ,we worked on some start-line sprinting, seeing the effect of choosing different gears on how quickly you can pull away, but then also remembering to change gear when your legs go too quick! We also saw what a difference it made when you start a race by pointing in s straight line!
We then headed back to the main area and worked on gears and mounts / dismounts and picking up / putting down the bike, where we had some excellent moving mounts / dismounts and Dom trying to remember what numbers he had called out…….
Rider of the week
Riders of the week this session were Molly D, Anastasia and CC. well done to you chaps!
Race update
Nothing to report this week. There are a few more races in the Eastern League cyclocross calendar so plenty of time to have a go!
Next session
Bit of a change this week – One big group and it will be team points racing after a warm up. We are aiming to have 6 teams, competing in Italian pursuit, bottle pass / gate relay and a pairs slalom just to mix it up a bit and see what you have all learned, given it is the last session.
Christmas theme so feel free to wear your best elf or Father Christmas outfit, or even just a bit of tinsel.
After the session finishes at 11.30am, those regular attendees who have booked a place will be heading to the Countryside Centre for the Go Ride 2012 awards, kicking off at midday and finishing at 14:00. Demand for places at this prestigious event has substantially outstripped supply this year and we are space restricted so I have no more room if you haven’t booked in already – sorry for that in advance, but we will have to see what we can do about increasing capacity next year.
Session starts at 10am (finishing at 11.30) so please be prompt so riders don’t have to hang around in what could be less than ideal weather
I’ll be circulating details of January’s dates in due course, as soon as James, Simon and I get 5 minutes to plan them. Broadly speaking it will continue to be first and third Saturday of each month.
And finally…
Exciting time for a few riders – we are off again with 12 riders to Manchester velodrome on 22nd December. Only 4 of the riders hat came last month can make it so we have 8 riders looking forward to a new experience. I’ll let you know how we get on in due course.
If I don’t get a chance to ping a note out with my review of the year before Christmas, I hope that Father Christmas brings you all the shiny stuff you asked for, as long as you have been good all year and that you have a great 2013. I know we will!
Ride safely. See you soon
Mike, James and Simon
