I am delighted to be able to inform you that Lotty Wylde and Sophie Saberton secured first and second place in the overall 2012 Mud Sweat and Gears (“MSG”) series for St Ives CC after a tough final course at Ickworth House in Suffolk on Sunday 17th June.
Several people commented on how St Ives have dominated the U12 series this year and James and I are absolutely delighted with how all the riders have developed and performed in races over the period. They have all done us proud with their sheer determination and focus on doing well, along with their team attitude. No-one has given up this year.
Over the last few events, Lotty, Sophie, Holly and Sam have all secured podium positions – St Ives actually won all 4 races they entered, taking second twice and third twice. The elusive 1-2-3 will have to wait until next year’s series!
Emma has really started to make up ground this year, and Holly did fantastically well coming back post illness, securing one 1st and two 4th positions in her 3 races although as Holly was only able to enter 3 races, she unfortunately didn’t qualify for series points. We wish both Holly and Emma luck next year when they will be going up to the juvenile series; the going will get tougher as they will be racing the adult course but the effort they have both made this year will stand them in good stead!
After the race, the 2012 race team of Dom, Harriet, Holly, Sophie, Harriet, Sam, Emma and Bea had their photo taken with Lotty and Sophie proudly showing off their glass tankards as series winners, although it may be a while before they fill them with beer!
Thanks to all the parents who have supported their children so consistently which has enabled us to produce a cracking result. We will be looking for more races to get our Go Riders to over the rest of this year and I look forward to bringing you more news of success! I am really excited about the very real possibility of getting a great turnout for when the cyclocross series starts with such a strong group of riders.
All regular Go Ride attendees are given free membership of St Ives CC and so are eligible to race for the club. Everybody racing in this series has thoroughly enjoyed it and we would welcome any new riders wishing to having a go at racing. It is a lot of fun and extremely rewarding being part of such a great team and we clearly need to start building up the boys team, currently ably represented solely by Dom!
To really build up our club to cover more disciplines, we also need to expand the number of coaches – we have some plans to increase this over the coming year, but would also welcome anyone wanting to get more involved, in whatever capacity.
We will be hosting our own Go Ride MTB race in Hinchingbrooke Park on 11th August so I hope to see plenty of club representation at that event.
Again, well done to all our riders from two very chuffed coaches!
