The weekly Club Run allows people to enjoy cycling and learn group riding in a friendly, relaxed, non-competitive environment. Riders meet on the paved area outside the Norris Museum, Broadway, St Ives at 08:45 on Sunday mornings with the first group leaving at 09:00. Rides are typically between 55 and 65 miles in length but you don’t need to ride the entire route. All routes feature a café stop at roughly the halfway point. Details of the route are sent out to members a few days in advance by the Club Run Captain. Groups usually arrive back in St Ives between 13:30 and 14:30 depending on conditions, the route and the speed of the group.
Riders are organised into several groups of similar fitness and ability. On a typical Sunday there will be three to four groups with six to twelve riders per group. Riders are free to choose which group they want to ride with, however new riders are encouraged to start with a slower group initially and move to a faster ones as they progress. The Club Run is a social ride and has a strict ‘no drop’ policy. If you have a mechanical or other problem then the group will wait for you, and the group rides at the speed of the slowest rider in that group. Group speeds are dependent on conditions, ride terrain etc. but typically they average approximately:
- A group 19-20 mph
- B+ group 17-19 mph
- B- group 16-18 mph
- C group 14-15 mph
Club runs are open to members of St Ives CC, but non-members are welcome to come and try a few rides before joining. If you would like to join a ride before becoming a member of the club please contact us and we can arrange this.
All riders should read and understand the How We Ride page before riding with the club.
